Mysore: The launch of the Aadhar card -linked direct LPG subsidy- transfer to bank accounts scheme scheduled for Wednesday, has been put off to June 1. But the good news is that those who have not yet got Aadhar cards or opened bank accounts will get a grace period of three months to do so.
Although Aadhar enrolment is as high as 92 per cent among the 5,18,000 LPG consumers in Mysore district, the card numbers of only 70 per cent or 3.88 lakh consumers have been recorded in the LPG Consumer database. Also only 15 to 20 per cent of consumers have provided bank account numbers to the agencies concerned.
Deputy Commissioner, C. Shikha, who was participating in a video conference with National Oil Companies (NOC) on Wednesday, said from June 1 consumers who have seeded Aadhar cards and bank accounts, would have to buy LPG cylinders at a cost of Rs 900 and the subsidy amount of Rs 435 would be deposited into their bank accounts.
“Those who don’t have Aadhar cards or bank accounts or have failed to submit details of them to LPG agencies, will get a grace period of three months. But after August they will lose their subsidy,” she warned.
While Mysore district has 25 Aadhar enrolment centres, talks are being held with banks to allow opening of zero balance accounts. “Gas agencies are installing drop boxes, where consumers can drop photo copies of Aadhar cards, and bank account and gas connection numbers.
They can also approach helplines if they need to,” Shikha added, revealing that people could check if their bank accounts and Aadhar card numbers had been seeded on www.indane.co.in, www.hindustanpetroleum.com and www.ebharatgas.com.
