CHANDIGARH: The Indian Journal of Psychology has published a special edition dedicated to Nirbhaya.
India's oldest journal of psychology, established by Calcutta University in 1962, not only pays tribute to the spirit of Nirbhaya but also contains interesting research articles compiled by women scholars.
Led by Meena Sehgal, guest editor and professor at Punjab University's psychology department, it is theme is 'Saluting the spirit of Nirbhaya! May her sacrifice awaken Indian consciousness and conscience'.
The journal contains 23 research articles written by scholars from the US, Lahore, Kolkata, Punjab and Udaipur. "It was a challenge to bring out this special edition particularly when the journal was under the threat of folding up. An edition released last year and this special edition have given it a boost," says Jitender Mohan, professor emeritus at PU and editor in chief of IJP.
The journal is the official organ of Indian Psychological Association and the latest edition covers areas like women getting over trauma of cancer, skin disorders, motherhood, stress management, rights of vulnerable children among others.
"As academicians, this is one way in which we could have given a message to the society and salute the spirit of Nirbhaya. To bring out something concrete in the new edition was the motive," added Sehgal.
"The incident struck everyone's consciousness so hard that nothing was better than giving a message remembering the braveheart," says Mohan.
Nirbhaya was gangraped on a bus in Delhi on December 16 last year and she died on December 29 at a hospital in Singapore.
