Parliamentary committee suggests AC general compartments, more double deckers


CHENNAI: The Parliamentary standing committee on railways today recommended railways to introduce air conditioned general compartments and more double decker trains.

In a statement T R Baalu chairman of the committee said that general compartment with AC on a par with metro rail at Delhi and Kolkata would help common man to enjoy air conditioned rail travel without additional financial burden.

"A pilot project at all suburban metros may be launched in time bound manner which would not burden present infrastructure," he added.
The standing committee has also recommended railways to introduce more double decker services so that more passengers could be carried as there are limitations to expand infrastructure.
