JAIPUR: Literacy rate among women in Rajasthan has increased from 43.9% to 52.1% over the past 10 years. However, the difference between the male-female literacy is still high at 27.1%.
The figures are from the "Primary Census Abstract 2011" released by chief minister Ashok Gehlot at the state secretariat on Saturday.
As per the report, the difference between the male-female literacy rate was 31.8% in 2001, but it was reduced to 27.1% in the past ten years. The release function was also attended by Deepak Rastogi, deputy director general of the office of the registrar general and census commissioner of India.
According to the latest report, the male literacy rate has also increased from 74.7% to 79.2% and the female literacy rate has pushed up to 52.1% from 43.9%. The overall literacy rate has increased from 60.14% to 66.11% in the state.
Moreover, the child sex ratio (0-6 year category) has decreased significantly. In 2001, it was 909 but now the new report shows that it has reduced to 888 in the state. In the 2001 census, there were 50.7 lakh girlchild in the 0-6 year category but as per the new census report released on Saturday, the population of the girlchild (0-6 years) was 50.1 lakh.
The population of male children has increased from 55.8 lakh (in 2001 census) to 56.4 lakh (2011 census). However, the percentage of population of children (0-6) year has decreased over the past 10 years. As per the 2001 census, the percentage of male child was 19% while for the female child it was 18.7%. But the new census report says the percentage of male child population is 15.9 while it is 15.2 for the girlchild.
Besides, the overall male-female (sex) ratio has increased in the state. The sex ratio was 921 (2001 census) but it increased to 928 (2011 census). The population of women increased from 2.71 crore to 3.30 crore while the population of male increased from 2.94 crore to 3.55 crore. The percentage of male population in the state is 51.86, which was 52.06 (census 2001). Moreover the percentage of women has increased from 47.94 (2001 census) to 48.14.
