With PSU drug-manufacturer Hindustan Antibiotics Limited facing severe financial difficulties, the Hindustan Antibiotics School in Pimpri has been lying in a state of disrepair. Now, its alumni association has now stepped in to give its alma mater a shot in the arm.
The five-acre campus, managed by the Deccan Education Society (DES), holds three school buildings; pre-primary, primary and secondary, with the secondary school building being the largest edifice with 60 classrooms. “A month ago, we got together to plan a reunion. After learning about the condition of the school, we decided to launch an initiative to help .
So far we have collected about Rs 25,000 from voluntary donations,” said Ganesh Gaonkar (29), IT professional and Vice-Chairman, Hindustan Antibiotics School Alumni Association (HASAA). Shashank Paramane (30) banker and Chairman, HASAA said, “The idea is to contact the alumni from 1959 till date, which comes to more than former 20,000 students. We are trying to get the contact details available with the school and also on social networking websites.”
HASAA treasurer Kaushik Kochhar added, “If things go as per our plan, we will organise a reunion by the end of July and raise an appeal to the alumni to join hands with us and contribute as much as they can.” However, the alumni face an uphill task as the estimated cost for repairs is approximately Rs 15 lakh.
