All candidates for Eamcet to get seat

Vijayawada: Every candidate who appears for the engineering, agriculture and medicine common entrance test (Eamcet) on Friday is assured of an eligible rank and seat in any engineering college in the state as the total number of applicants for the examination is 2,90,015 against the three lakh engineering seats available in the state provided by more than 720 engineering colleges.
The total number of candidates appearing for the engineering examination from Vijayawada region is 23,748, while there are around 20,000 seats in the district. Majority of the candidates who have applied in the Vijayawada region are the natives of other parts of the state who are studying in hostels here.

The poor rush for the engineering is also putting the colleges’ survival in danger. Admissions to three colleges in the district were cancelled last year as they failed to admit at least one candidate through convener quota and many other colleges had shut down particular departments that did not have any admissions.
Only about 10 engineering colleges in the district had filled 100 per cent seats in all branches while the remaining engineering colleges only filled seats in major departments like electronics, mechanical and civil engineering.
The situation of information technology, computer science and electrical engineering is threatening as 25 out of 37 engineering colleges in the district failed to fill all seats of those departments. On the other hand, the total number of applicants for the engineering stream in the district is being reduced year by year. The number of engineering candidates has decreased while the number of medicine applicants has increased by 42 per cent with 14,148 this year against 5,955 in 2010.

Student of a corporate college, Kavya, who is going to appear for Eamcet says, “As getting a seat is confirmed, we are aiming for the top ranks.”
