Kochi: Swati Krishna, a 17-year-old girl from Piravom, was a class topper for most part of her studies and her teachers and parents had high hopes on her repeating the feat in her plus-two examinations. And, she achieved it defying all odds.
Her life turned topsy-turvy when she fell into a coma after her liver was badly damaged by jaundice in June last. She needed a emergency transplant but her poor family couldn’t afford it. However, her prayers were answered when the whole of Edakkattuvayal Panchayat sprang into action and collected about Rs 17 lakhs within 12 hours to facilitate her liver transplant surgery.
The surgery and aftermath took more than six months of her Plus two studies but the young Swati Krishna came out with flying colours defying all odds. She bagged A+ in all subjects and once again surprised her near and dear ones.
“My daughter was bedridden for most part of last year. She resumed her studies only by December but could not read continuously for over an hour. Though she bagged full A+ in her SSLC exams, we wanted her just to get pass marks in her Plus Two exams after what had happened to her. But God is great...After all the testing times, he’s showering blessings on us,” said Krishnan Kutty, Swathy’s father, who is a carpenter by profession.
Little Swati, though, has always had high dreams and is happy to be a step closer to her goal, i e to become an IAS officer.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of my dear teachers and friends. While the teachers set up a virtual classroom facility using internet just to give daily lessons to me, my friends would write down notes for me,” she told
